Boat
Maintenance
Looking to have a boat that will last a lifetime and beyond?
A little bit of maintenance and your boat will give you decades of adventures.
Maintenance After Paddling Season
Give it a bath
Clean the inside and outside of your boat with warm soapy water applied by cloth, sponge, or soft bristle brush to prevent pond scum build up. This also prevents the spreading of invasive species. This is especially important after paddling in salt water. Salt can dry out wood and tarnish stainless steel hardware if left unrinsed.
Give it some love
-
Check for cracks in the hull and wood that may need to be addressed.
-
Give the hull a good coating of 303 Aerospace protectant to reduce UV damage, make the hull nice and shiny, and reduce the appearance of scratches
-
Sand and oil the wood, using Corey’s Amazing Tung Oil, to protect against moisture and rot.
.
Store away from sun and weather
The most important factor to the longevity of your boat is storing it properly. This has more impact than any other maintenance you may preform.

Maintaining your Wooden Gunwales
01.
Lightly sand gunwales using 100 grit sandpaper. Use this time to inspect the boat for any damage that may need repair
02.
Apply a coat of Tung oil using a foam brush or rag. We recommend Corey's Amazing Tung Oil. Always give your jar a good shake to combine contents before applying.
03.
Let sit for 15 minutes to let oil absorb. Keep out of direct sunlight.
04.
Wipe off any excess with rag or paper towel
Repeat
Oil at the beginning and end of the paddle season. More frequently if wood begins to look weathered or dry
