Campsites in Upper Saranac Lake are free first-come, first-serve designated sites, reservations are necessary for any night spent on either Middle or Lower Saranac Lakes through the Saranac Lake Islands Campground.

• Tips: When paddling Saranac Lake, take advantage of its mix of open water and sheltered channels by planning routes that match the day’s conditions. Wind can pick up on the larger lake sections, so starting early and staying flexible with your plan helps ensure a smoother paddle. Use the islands and shoreline to break up longer crossings, and be mindful of motorboat traffic, especially in summer—wearing bright clothing or using a flag can improve visibility. The interconnected lakes and carries are part of the fun, so pack light and be prepared for short portages.
